September 2026 | Added a Candidate Screen Built Around the AI Chat to the AI Collaboration Format

Account

Each AI Collaboration problem can now specify whether candidates take it on the "editor screen" or the "chat-centered exam screen." For problems whose candidate screen is set to "AI chat only," the candidate's development environment opens on a screen built around the AI chat.

Background

Until now, every AI Collaboration problem used the same candidate screen: a developer-oriented layout with a file tree, editor, terminal, and chat. For problems where talking with the AI is almost the entire task, most of that UI went unused.

Candidates in roles that don't involve writing code had to start by figuring out where to open the chat, which meant they could stumble on something unrelated to the difficulty of the problem. Problems centered on interacting with AI can now be taken on a screen that shows only the chat from the start.

What's New

Candidates take the test on the chat-centered exam screen

For problems whose candidate screen is set to "AI chat only," the AI chat appears in the center of the screen when the development environment opens. The file tree (Explorer) and the terminal are not shown.

  • Files created or changed by the AI can be reviewed from the list of changed files in the chat.
  • Markdown files open in preview, and PDF files open in a viewer.
  • The chat reopens automatically even if the candidate closes it.

The tutorial and exam rules at the start of the test also change to describe the chat-centered exam screen. What is evaluated is the files in the working folder at the end of the test.

The candidate-facing explanation is available in Working with AI-Collaborative Format.

You can check the candidate screen in the problem list and problem details

In the problem list, problems whose candidate screen is "AI chat only" show an "AI chat only" label. In the problem details, "About this question" shows "Candidate screen: AI chat only."

Problems without the label are taken on the editor screen, as before.

Other Changes

Added a "View deliverables" button to reports

AI Collaboration reports now show a "View deliverables" button next to "Open Playback." This applies to all AI Collaboration problems, regardless of the candidate screen setting. Along with this, the "Open Submitted Code" button on the Playback tab has been renamed to "View deliverables."

The development environment follows the browser's language

The display language of the candidate's development environment now follows the browser's language setting (Japanese or English). This applies to all AI Collaboration problems, regardless of the candidate screen setting.

What Stays the Same

  • Existing problems are taken on the editor screen, as before.
  • The candidate screen is fixed for each problem and cannot be changed when creating a test. Candidates cannot switch screens during the test either.
  • There are no changes to the evaluation criteria.
